User:Rob/WADs and Presentation: How to write a Modification page

From SRB2 Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

There are many modifications for Sonic Robo Blast 2 that have been made, but only a few of these projects are notable in the eyes of the Wiki. These projects are almost always Level Packs with only a few exceptions, such as Botanic Serenity and SRB2JTE. For these level packs, an SRB2 Wiki article is expected. However, there must be a certain format to those pages. Usually, modifications such as the ones listed above do not need to follow the exact modification standards, because they are generally different from the usual level pack. The general rule, however, is that an SRB2 mod being written for should have certain popularity or notoriety in the community.

(In this area, a basic description of the mod should be given)

Main Article

The main article should always consist of a basic description of the level pack. It should tell who the author is, and it should give a very brief rundown of what a player can find inside the level pack itself. Links to a direct download of the most recent version of the level pack, as well as a forum topic (if applicable), should always be included. If the level pack is covered by multiple pages (see below,) the main article is also the area where credit should be given (also if applicable.) If the level pack contains different ways to earn Chaos Emeralds from the regular game or uses multiple characters, those things should be noted briefly in this page as well.

(This area should contain more about the mod's main features)

Detailed Articles

Map Pages

Map Pages should always include detailed information about the map, as well as a walkthrough. The walkthrough should adequately explain what to do along a given path, and what some of the deviations from that path can lead to. Level pages should Technical Data, information on amount of Rings, Linedefs, Sectors, Vertices, specific things, etc. A map page should include Points of Interest, where a player can find special powerups, such as invincibility monitors, or secrets, such as emblems, emerald tokens, or chaos emeralds themselves. Map pages should use a variation of this template (note: deleted). If the author does not know how to edit this template, then a request for an edit of it may be put on the mod's main page. Other people may write these walkthroughs, too.

Chaos Emeralds

If the mod has Chaos Emeralds in it that are collected in a different way from how SRB2 does it normally, this should be described in the level pages they appear in/are earned. The pages should describe the exact objective to earn the Chaos Emerald. Also, the levels where Chaos Emeralds can be found should be on a seperate template section of the one shown above.

Characters

Character pages should be written for any mod that has multiple addon characters used with it. Detailed descriptions of what the character can do should be included, such as maximum speed, jumping ability, etc. If the character can go super, the super form's abilities should also be included.
