I figure that since maps have walkthroughs and general techniques, that Multiplayer gametypes should also have general techniques. Despite the lack of stability in SRB2's netcode, multiplayer gaming is an exceptional part of SRB2's gameplay, and I have heard many people ask the question: "How do I get better at match?"

I think I'll start making a guide or something. =D

General Character Tactics

Each character in SRB2, whether custom or included with the game, has its own set of strengths and weaknesses against other characters. A great deal of the game's strategy lies in the ability to use one character's strengths to take advantage of the opponent character's weaknesses.

Sonic

Sonic is by far the fastest character in the game. With Sonic's "air dash" (called "thok" in this guide), he can traverse a great deal of horizontal distance in a short period of time. His weaknesses mostly stem from the fact that he much harder to control in comparison to other characters and has a much more difficult time with platforming for the same reason.

General Tactics

  • Be constantly "thokking." Unless using a spring or spindashing, Sonic should be otherwise moving as fast as he possibly can. This is beneficial in making Sonic very difficult to hit.
  • Remember that Sonic's speed equals that of a normal fired ring while thokking. This essentially means that as long as Sonic is moving directly away from fired rings, he cannot be hit.
  • Even when moving at fast rates of speed, it is still important to vary direction in order to prevent opponents from predicting Sonic's motion. Change directions randomly. A good way to do this is to jump, rotate 180 degrees and thok in the opposite direction. This is an effective way to mix opponents up.
  • When encountering dangerous platforming, do not "thok" any more times than there is room on platforms. Performing even one additional "thok" when it is not necessary will send Sonic flying off whatever platform he is on into whatever hazards lie below.

Anti-Character Tactics

The following are specific ways to combat other characters.

Sonic vs. Sonic

(At this point, will only focus on characters included with the game.)

Also, possibly add specific pages for more in-depth character usage guides? I guess this can be the general guide and new work can be on more specific aspects of each character's use.

(Now that I think of it, a netgame etiquette section is coming to mind. Different section, but still.)
