Player stepping into an exit sector.

Sector type 8192, Exit Sector/Special Stage Pit/CTF Flag Return is a sector type that can trigger one of three different effects, depending on the gametype.

Effects

Single Player

When the player enters the affected sector, this effect ends the level and shows the score tally screen, then heads to the next map as specified in the level header. This effect will also make any Level End Sign inside the affected sector spin, showing the face of the character who first entered the sector. As this sector special is required to end a regular level, it can be seen in all Single Player levels except Emerald Hunt stages and NiGHTS stages.

Type of sector Behavior
In-level sector Ends the level when the player enters the sector. If you want to force the player to touch the floor, place an invisible, intangible FOF around the in-level exit sector and and set its top and bottom to the floor height of the in-level sector.
Solid FOF control sector Ends the level when the player touches the FOF top for more than 30 tics
Intangible FOF control sector Ends the level when the player enters the FOF
Water FOF control sector Ends the level when the player enters the FOF

Special Stages

In non-NiGHTS Special Stages, this effect immediately gives the player a "Time up!" and aborts the Special Stage when the player touches the floor of the affected sector.

Type of sector Behavior
In-level sector Ends the Special Stage when the player touches the floor
Solid FOF control sector Ends the Special Stage when the player touches FOF top
Intangible FOF control sector Ends the Special Stage when the player enters the FOF
Water FOF control sector Ends the Special Stage when the player enters the FOF

Capture the Flag

In CTF, this effect returns any dropped flag to its base immediately. It is commonly used in hazardous areas or death pits to prevent dropped flags from getting stuck in places where they cannot be recovered.

Type of sector Behavior
In-level sector Returns any dropped flag that enters the sector to its base
Solid FOF control sector Returns any dropped flag that touches the FOF top to its base
Intangible FOF control sector Returns any dropped flag that enters the FOF to its base
Water FOF control sector Returns any dropped flag that enters the FOF to its base
