Is the "Diagonal Flying" a technique?

You know... If you run at full speed, jump of the platform/cliff/whatever, you can look at the left or right, and, while holding the pretended direction, start flying. This can be seen in countless speedruns. Is this a technique, or a glitch? Espyo 15:40, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
