Tables vs. Formulae

In response to your last edit, Turtle Man: Although doing the calculations is a bit tedious, it's still necessary. The table you included is fine for MAPA0-MAPAZ, but the extended map numbers go all the way up to MAPZZ, and tables aren't really feasible for that. --Oogaland 11:18, 10 May 2007 (PDT)

On the other hand, such a listing is within the scope of the Wiki becoming a great resource: part of being a great resource should be having all the information in one place; also having it all easy to access. I'd imagine that an extended map number listing all the way to MAPZZ would be beneficial and convenient to the average mapper. Of course, we can keep the formula on top to describe the extended map number, but I think a listing would be helpful, too. I'll personally fiddle around and see what I can come up with. --Digiku 17:07, 10 May 2007 (PDT)

Is there any way to "tile" this? A left-right listing would probably be less tedious to read. ~DarkWarrior

Honestly, I think a simple formula would be better, as gigantic tables are honestly ridiculous. Just give a formula and a few examples. -Mystic 21:40, 10 May 2007 (PDT)

Then how about a separate page: "List of Extended Map Numbers"? You just get the table and nothing else. --Digiku 23:04, 10 May 2007 (PDT)

I actually think that the formula is broken. It's obvious that MAPA0 is 100, but that's not what I get with the formula. Also, in the part where you divide by 36, what if you get a decimal? EDIT: I added the C table. I think we can finish the tables. The C one was done in about 5 minutes. Oh, and by the way, to check we got it correctly at the end, MAPZZ is 1036. I think. It might be 1035 EDIT2: I fixed the formulas, and ZZ is 1035. EDIT3: I used Digiku's idea and moved the tables to a seperate article.--68.252.132.177 09:30, 5 July 2007 (PDT)(Kaysakado)

Yeah, it seems that, at the very end, adding 100 was missing from the final step. Kaysakado's fix is accurate, then. Great work!

Did you mess around with the opposite formula, too? --Digiku 11:37, 5 July 2007 (PDT)

Yeah, I fixed both formulas.--68.74.29.200 17:02, 5 July 2007 (PDT)(Kaysakado)
