Linedef Type 14, Riders Parameters, is a type of linedef special exclusive to SRB2 Riders that is used to determine properties for several of SRB2 Riders' new features.

When used with the Riders Grind Rail sector type (sector type 192), it creates a rail for Speed type characters (such as Sonic) to grind on and replenish their air tanks. This has no effect for characters using other Extreme Gear types. In Sonic Riders levels, several sectors with this special, each with its own linedef type 14 tagged to it, are typically connected together to form a grind rail path, as using one alone would continually move the player in the same direction. This special is only intended for Sonic Riders stages, but the effect may still work in Mario Kart mode.[confirm? – discuss]

When used with the Riders Jump Pad sector type (sector type 208), it creates a jump pad that propels the player like a spring, but with adjustable height and speed. In Sonic Riders mode, it can also be used for jump tricks. If you hold the Jump button while approaching and let go while on the pad, you will receive a rank from C (lowest) to X (highest) and your air tank will be refreshed accordingly. Just like the side spring, the player's angle will change accordingly. If you do not release the Jump button in time, or not at all, you will jump off automatically at the edge at receive a C rank. In Mario Kart mode, you cannot perform jump tricks, but the effect can still be used to propel the player.

Setup

Riders Grind Rail

The target sector that should be a grind rail must be given the Riders Grind Rail sector type (sector type 192). The direction of the grind rail is indicated by the direction of the control linedef. The linedef length indicates the speed.

Unless Effect 1 is checked, the ceiling height of the control sector determines the Z position the player will be teleported to while grinding on the rail. This behavior is designed for when the target sector is the control sector for an intangible FOF (such as linedef type 220), like in all of SRB2 Riders' own Sonic Riders stages, as the player would otherwise fall into the FOF. Note that using intangible FOFs instead of solid FOFs allows Speed type characters to jump onto rails from the sides.

Riders Jump Pad

The target sector that should have the jump pad effect must be given the Riders Jump Pad sector type (sector type 208). Outside the main map, two control sectors that share one linedef should be created. The linedef that they share must be tagged to the in-level target sector and be given this linedef type. Both control sectors will determine how far and how high the player will jump: The standard route is set by the back sector of the linedef, and a better route that can only be reached with a higher rank is set by the front sector of the linedef. The ceiling height and floor height set the Jump Pad's speed and height, respectively. The player's angle is set by the control linedef's angle.

If the jump pad is meant to be optional and should not make the player jump automatically at the edge, give the control linedef the Effect 1 flag. For Mario Kart mode, only one control sector is actually used, but the special still needs both sectors to work correctly.
