Talk:Custom textures tutorial (XWE)
In Wall Textures: "The height must be 255 pixels or less, but it can be anything else.". Now, why the hell I find textures with 256px in the srb2.srb? It's likely the text is wrong. Confirm it please? --Ezer'Arch|עֶזֶר'AρχTalk 07:42, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
I'm sorry Ezer, but I couldn't find any patch in srb2.srb with 256px in height... Can you give an example of such a texture? --Ricardo [Contribs] [Talk] 11:55, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
Not many, but few ones (by patch name): GHZWALL5, GHZWALL9, WEBB1 and WEBB2. I don't find more. --Ezer'Arch|עֶזֶר'AρχTalk 18:58, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
Those textures are made from multiple patches, and it is those patches that cannot exceed the 255px height limit. --Ricardo [Contribs] [Talk] 19:10, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
I just edited the tutorial so it would be a bit clearer on this issue. -Torgo 21:43, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
Flat conversion in XWE
Can someone test out converting "256 by 256, or even 1024 by 1024" size flats in XWE? I thought it was impossible due to the fact that XWE always cuts the height of a picture to 255. --Torgo (talk) 23:42, 4 April 2013 (CDT)
- I just tried it out by resizing some random Mario flat, and it seemed to work out fine. Then again, maybe it just cut off the texture and I didn't notice it because it still tiled (almost) correctly. --SpiritCrusherTalk • Contribs 03:32, 5 April 2013 (CDT)
- How did you manage to do that? Did you export the mario flat and resize it, then load it back into XWE? If so, did you use the "Load" or the "Load (raw data)" option? I thought if you used the "Load" option, it crops the image height making 256 x 256 impossible. --Torgo (talk) 10:55, 5 April 2013 (CDT)
- I just tested it myself and it works! XWE doesn't crop images in the latest version. --Torgo (talk) 11:17, 5 April 2013 (CDT)
Having one texture tutorial?
I wonder if it would be good to have just one article so we don't have to update two articles. I am not sure what would be the best way of doing this would be though, since there are some steps that are a little different. --Torgo (talk) 23:54, 4 April 2013 (CDT)
- I think that's a good idea, but myself I'm honestly a bit hesitant to do major changes to articles that will need to be rewritten anyway when 2.1 comes out. If somebody else is willing to do the work, I would absolutely support it though. --SpiritCrusherTalk • Contribs 03:32, 5 April 2013 (CDT)
- Yeah, you are right. Especially with the advent of Tall patches making TEXTURE lumps obsolete, the whole article would need to be rewritten. --Torgo (talk) 10:55, 5 April 2013 (CDT)
The future of this page
Since most people use SLADE, which is the more supported lump editor, what's the future of this page? I think this page should either be updated for 2.2 standards, archived, deleted, or merged with the SLADE article. --Radicalicious (talk) 00:03, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
