Impressed

Wow,

I've seen you around for one day and you've already done some really swell work! I.e. work that nobody else has bothered to do. I used to do cleanup and anti-vandal duties on Wikipedia for a short time, myself. It's sorely needed stuff, and I thought you deserved recognition. :)

--Digiku 20:13, 27 October 2007 (PDT)

Wow, thanks! ^_^ –SonicMaster 20:36, 27 October 2007 (PDT)

My gosh. I haven't seen somebody work as hard as you here since we first recruited Digiku here. It's great to see that this place hasn't kicked the bucket just yet. Please, keep up the good work. You don't know how much you're helping. --Spazzo 19:15, 29 October 2007 (PDT)

Gosh, that is a lot. You must have some serious time on your hands to make this amount of edits in just the first two days. Stellar work. ~ Blue Warrior lulz 21:18, 30 October 2007 (PDT)

Um, guys, just so you know, being a Christian, I don't like Christ used like that around me... (I'm not mad at all, though). On the other hand, yes, I do have time on my hands... ^_^ –SonicMaster 21:29, 30 October 2007 (PDT)

Well, while I don't want to restrict what can/can't be said in general talk pages too much, but if you don't like it in your talk page, please, feel free to censor it out. ^_^ Also, I must state that I too am severely impressed with the work you've done so far. Thank you very much for what you've done. The quality of your work is superb, as well. Not to mention the sheer amount of work. It really is absolutely amazing. ~DarkWarrior Talk • Contribs 21:32, 30 October 2007 (PDT)

  • Oh, well, that's really what I actually wanted. Sorry for the miscommunication. Censoring done. –SonicMaster 22:02, 30 October 2007 (PDT)

Hey, maybe you could use some batch edit techniques. I made up some techniques for myself. Do you know anything about editing XML? --Digiku talk 21:42, 30 October 2007 (PDT)

Nup, I haven't even heard of XML. I'd like to make significant contributions to linedef articles, sector articles, etc., but I haven't made any WAD files, and therefore, I don't have a great knowledge of how they work. –SonicMaster 22:02, 30 October 2007 (PDT) EDIT: I've now made a WAD file. It's sort of cheap; it uses an existing map. –SonicMaster 22:54, 3 November 2007 (PDT)

MIDIs

I barely recognized you from VGMusic! I don't visit VGMusic that frequently anymore, though, so that stands to reason. XP
I was wondering, how does Finale work as a MIDI sequencer? I have Cubasis VST 4, and even though it can do a lot of things, it's pretty outdated and won't let raise pitch bends to more than a couple notes for some reason, so it wouldn't hurt me to try out another sequencing program. I've tried Anvil Studio too; great for newbies, but not my type of editor. =P ~ Blue Warrior lulz 21:18, 30 October 2007 (PDT)

File --> Save As. Then choose the type of file to be MIDI. Oh, and I use Anvil Studio for things that Finale PrintMusic does not. Oh, by the way, I recognize you from VGMusic, too! I've literally danced to your SSB Master Hand MIDI. XD –SonicMaster 21:22, 30 October 2007 (PDT)

A note on linking

FYI, the sector and linedef pages are all named "Sector Type 980" and similar, hence the redlinks on the "common" names such as "Death Pit (Camera Modifications). However, we intend to move all the pages to the common names in the future (but that's something to save until we've decided on something definite, which we haven't yet.) Just thought maybe I'd save you some effort. :) --Digiku 16:01, 29 October 2007 (PDT)

I said we haven't decided on something definite, yet. I want DW to say the word before all the moves are done. :P Great job in the meanwhile, though! I just want the matter to be talked over, first, since it's really important in how it's done. What it makes it so hard is that the specials have had multiple names through the WadAuthor and SRB2 Doom Builder configs, as well as our own names. Hey, maybe DW can put in some input. --Digiku 20:20, 29 October 2007 (PDT)

I would like to move the pages to what we currently have them named in the list to the left. For Sector Types, anyways. I have no clue what to do with Linedefs later on though. X_X I also didn't really want to do it until all the sector pages were finished. Which, really, they kind of are, just not up to the new page standards worked out...So, if anyone wants to pick that up, go right ahead, though I'll do it myself anyways, after fixing up the rest of the sector pages, if no one else does, so...If you want, do it, if not...I'll pick it up later. ~DarkWarrior

My main concern is: are the Sector Type names precisely the same as in the new SRB2DB config? And the Thing Type names, too? I'm less concerned about WadAuthor's config, but the former is important imo. Another thing is that srb2.org's own specials page has had its own names all prepared; should we have used those all along...? I'm not sure about whether we're more official or if that's more official, if that's even a concern. --Digiku 09:08, 30 October 2007 (PDT)

Again: We're holding off on naming the sector and linedef type pages to their common names. We haven't decided what to do with them, yet. --Digiku talk 19:42, 3 November 2007 (PDT)

Sorry, I should have been taking the hint. But it did remove some redlinks... –SonicMaster 22:51, 3 November 2007 (PDT)

What's that... thing at the top of your user page?

With the Wiki Fairy and Gnome, or whatever. ~Kaysakado  • Talk 15:51, 27 November 2007 (PST)

At Wikipedia, a WikiFairy is one that cleans up messy articles and/or reorganizes stuff. A WikiGnome is one that makes lots of minor edits, often things to do with punctuation, spelling, and other grammar.

Sega cloning SRB2? lol

When I read your page, at first I thought Sega making an SRB2 clone would be cool, but then I realized that they would also probably screw it up like Sonic Heroes or something XD. ~WafflezHedgehog~blahblahblah*facepalms* 18:06, 30 November 2007 (PST)

I actually thought Sonic Heroes was really good. But yeah, I know what you mean *coughshadowandsonic2k6cough*. They'd need a prominent SRB2 member being the executive producer and the producer and "SRB3" would come out right. –SonicMaster 20:34, 30 November 2007 (PST)

It would be good if Sega did graphics, but nothing else. In terms of gameplay, I like SRB2 the way it is. Also, Sega would probably take out fun stuff like match and CTF.

They should basically not remove anything except for lag. Add more stuff like a special map creation interface for 2D, because making 2D maps in SRB2 is actually more difficult than making basic 3D maps. A special idea I have to add should work, not to mention it'd probably the first game ever to have this. Match and CTF must stay; you're right. If those were taken out, it would be ruined. Maybe add Chaos mode and make it better than the original. DON'T add Knuckles' dig ability. Moreover, it'd be cool if Match controls were akin to those of Metroid Prime 3's. –SonicMaster 13:59, 1 December 2007 (PST)

Special pretty sig

I got the rainbow colored signature that you posted on my sandbox page working, try to edit this section to see proper XHTML formatting of the rainbow sig, then copy and paste it into notepad or something, and replace the letters in HoneyComb with the ones in SonicMaster to make it work properly. §HoneyComb§

Here's the XHTML coding for the rainbow sig, saying your name: <font color="#FF0000">S</font><font color="#FF7000">o</font><font color="#CCCC00">n</font><font color="#007000">i</font><font color="#0000FF">c</font><font color="#7000FF">M</font><font color="#A000FF">a</font><font color="#CC0000>ster</font> What it looks like: <SonicMaster

Template alphabetizing

Thanks for your help, SonicMaster! That makes it a heck of a lot easier on my end. Now I can start organizing the templates better, which is on my to do list. :) --Digiku talk 10:16, 3 December 2007 (PST)

Issues with Forums

I've noticed you say quite a few times that you hate forums and avoid them. While I respect that opinion, it seems trying to work your way around the SRB2 Wiki community may be a less effective, though perhaps not always less direct approach. Suggestions such as the remixes for SRB2Riders would get further on the actual topic in the forums.

Now I can understand where you are coming from with your view on forums because I was in the same exact position a little over a year ago. I almost never registered with anything and stayed away from anything to do with forums. However I enjoyed customizing games, and my start into modding somewhat required me to communicate with other members which ultimately worked out for the best.

Furthermore, I stayed away from the SRB2 community even after I had started allowing myself to participate in online communities. I found the general, seemingly immature attitude somewhat hostile. The cursing and occasional improper material kept me away for the greatest part. However a single vice in one's view has the ability to outweigh all its virtues, so many think that SRB2 forums is a cesspool of idiocy and immaturity with few admins struggling to keep up. While it is true that there are common cases of immaturity in the forums there are actually more intelligent and respectable members than you would initially think.

There are always going to be inexperienced people asking questions that make no sense, and all kinds of idiots wherever you go. Avoiding forums isn't going to prevent you from meeting all of them. You are not obliged to open every topic, but only those you want to read and possibly participate in. It is easy for a scrupulous (used loosely, not by definition) member to be offended by certain posts, but you can ignore them or respond indifferently which is probably the biggest advantage for online communities. A single member can contribute to the forums in ways both you and the rest of the community can benefit.

Apologies for cluttering up your talk page, but if you are indeed avoiding forums for the same reasons I used to, then I wanted to let you know why I regard forums the way I do. I could go further but I won't for the sake of space. JEV3 05:19, 29 January 2008 (PST)

Frankly, I'm feeling MB is slowing down (faster?) after HDIJ's experience. I rather prefer more 5 users, intelligent and useful ones posting maps and discussing about level design, than more 50 users wasting time with worthless material and posts.--Ezer'Arch 18:09, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

Maybe I'll rerelease Blown Fuse with a fixed end section and more secrets. I also am releasing four maps to the contest. Again. I'll start making Heavenly Fountain Zone (Circuit) on Monday/Tuesday; it will use the asset pack. –SonicMaster 21:50, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

Music conversion

If you want I can convert that track for MRZ for you using Winlame, But if the end result file winds up being larger I'll reccomend submitting the original.--Glaber 20:36, 31 January 2008 (PST)

Ok I really wasn't expecting midi. and Unfortunatly all midi converters I've found I would have to pay for and the trials can only do 60 seconds.--Glaber 10:38, 2 February 2008 (PST)

At least it's an XG MIDI, like the MIDI for Starlit Warehouse Zone. If listened to in a Y-SXG50 synth, Starlit Warehouse Zone sounds exactly the same in MIDI as it does OGG. –SonicMaster 15:24, 2 February 2008 (PST)

Sorry, I must've forgotten about it earlier.

But, I've found the time to review your level that you put on my talk. I'm go ahead and rate like I would any other normal level in a contest.

The colors are supposed to help make me believe that I'm voting in a contest.

Wacky Track Zone by SonicMaster 8/10 (Great)

GrafixThere's plenty of scenery in this one, which is very nice. The changing skies was a nice effect. I know you can do that with a few simple linedefs, but I haven't seen it used like that other then a kind of day-to-night things. Very nice.

Gameplay The level is fun, I would find this a large improvement over both Racing into Dreams Zone AND Artic Dewpoint. There's not too many turns at once, everything doesn't seem to be tossed in at random, and it's has a sense of flow.

GimmixThe changing sky is an awesome effect, there are obstacles to be avoided, hoops and emblems are in a spacial order, what else is to need in a NiGHTS level?

Can you restore the "SA City" zone article for a day or two?

I want to make an archival of it, as I want to try and finish SA City, as JTE doesn't work on SRB2JTE anymore. ~Kaysakado  •  Talk  •  00:42, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Why? I mean, I can understand the point if you finished it, but... ~DarkWarrior Talk • Contribs 19:02, 16 March 2008 (PDT)

Because if all the features were made, it could actually be a good map instead of an RP/Hangout. In any case, thanks. ~Kaysakado  •  Talk  •  15:22, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

It wasn't spam compared to the other messages :D

"an SLumpEd Tutorial"?

I believe it should be a SLumpEd Tutorial *shot*. Oh that was the first page by the way, because you would probably have no idea what I was talking about. Also thanks for the ego points :P. -Torgo 20:59, 27 March 2008 (PDT)

Once you said a SLumpEd, I knew you were referring to my news post. I pronounce SLumpEd as ess-lump-ed. That's why. –SonicMaster 21:00, 27 March 2008 (PDT)

I believe the SL in SLumpEd stands for SlayeR, so unless you pronounce SlayeR as ess-lay-er, it should be pronounced the way it looks, but maybe he does pronounce it like that :P. -Torgo 21:06, 27 March 2008 (PDT)

I was separating it into Slayer's Lump Editor. –SonicMaster 21:08, 27 March 2008 (PDT)

About the "Digiku" situation

Just something I want to get clear with you

Please, don't say "badmouthing Mystic" or whatever when you do bans. That's not a valid ban reason in ANY way. I understand that the guy intentionally posted blatantly false information, as well as an image of his ban on the MB, but you can't give him a ban because he doesn't like Mystic. Next time, just say "posting false information" or something different, thanks. --Spazzo 19:44, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Yo hot slice, can you compile me a list of the contest NiGHTS maps?

Hey SonicMaster, long time no see! As I have little time to spare, can you do me a favor and just list here all the NiGHTS maps that were submitted to each level design contest? (Like, "September 2008 has NiGHTS Map 1, 2, 3 ---- November 2008 has NiGHTS Map 4, 5, 6 ---- etc.") How much free time do you have these days? Regardless, all one has to do is look through the pages :)

Hope all's well! --Digiku talk 03:37, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

  • Medivo Circuit NiGHTS Zone by Glaber - 3.20 (JulAug08)
  • Backwards Race Zone by SonicMaster - 5.56 (MayJun08)
  • Barren Ambition Zone by Glaber - 4.40 (MarApr08)
  • Endless Mine Zone by Glaber - 1.83 (JanFeb08)
  • Wacky Track Zone by SonicMaster - 7.00 (JanFeb08)

  • Racing into Dreams Zone by SonicMaster - 4.80 (NovDec07)
  • Darkmatter Freeway Zone by Chaos Zero 64 - 5.67 (JulAug07)

Seelkadoom is "doing" again? I saw you blocked him, but at least, just for curiosity, have you looked in the wad he had uploaded here? That wad belongs to another member (for "obvious reasons", too). I prefer to explain it via PM on MB. Anyway, I totally agree with you that file doesn't belong here. --Ezer'Arch 04:35, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I very much like the WAD, but I could tell it wasn't the real thing. It's an overall solid WAD, but has a few things here and there that need fixed. Not quite as good as RVZ1. –SonicMaster 04:39, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

Oh hey, what a nice surprise! Yeah, MonsterIestyn and I have been keeping things going in the last few years. Hope you're doing well. --MascaraSnakeTalkContribs 11:09, 1 September 2017 (UTC)

I am doing fairly well. I've certainly changed and grown. I might want to edit my user page, though at this time I don't think I'm going to necessarily come back to the SRB2 MB, for various reasons, time being one of them. I need to get into graduate school for my Master of Music in composition, for one.

Too bad to see the Level Design contests are no more. Boy did that take up a lot of my time to make those!

For the past year, I've been mostly interacting with the furries instead, more specifically the Mormon Furries on Facebook. I heard about furries first from the SRB2MB. I actually no longer go by SonicMaster, but by Scarbo the Black Sheep. I absolutely love the friends I've made there, and I'm excited to go to Anthro Weekend Utah to meet a lot of them.

Going back to SRB2 though, I haven't played SRB2 in years, but I still think quite highly of this project. Someday, I would still love to see an FPS on the market that plays just like SRB2.

It is interesting to see after, what, seven years, that some of the main SRB2 people are still here. I even noticed SSNTails posted.

Hi SonicMaster (...or rather, Scarbo the Black Sheep), yes we're still alive amazingly! Activity on here has pretty much fallen just to the two of us these days: I usually do most of the work fixing up little problems around the place, and MascaraSnake occasionally helps out too when he has the time (or not). You seem to have caught us at the weirdest time though: I've done very little recently unlike usual, lol.

Don't worry about the OLDC though, it will probably come back again when 2.2 comes out, it died before for 2.0 and was revived after 2.1 came out, only for it to die again after a few years. In the meantime we've had rather cool community projects like SUGOI (and its sequel SUBARASHII) pop up as a kind of substitute, and Lua scripting knows no bounds to creativity. So the SRB2 community is still thriving as ever thankfully.

Nice to see you pop up again anyway, it's been a while. --Monster Iestyn Talk 16:09, 1 September 2017 (UTC)

Your Twitter

Hey there! I took the liberty of removing the Twitter link from your page as the bio contains yet another Twitter link that has potentially NSFW content. Nothing against NSFW content itself, but as a previous admin I'm sure you understand the reason. Feel free to poke me if you've got any questions! --Tatsuru (talk) 17:31, 22 January 2023 (UTC)

OK, well it's still viewable by going into the View history. -- Scarbo
