March/April

Host: Mystic
Then-current SRB2 version: v1.08

This contest, which saw the return of Mystic as the host, was the start of a new format and a new set of rules. Contests were now held bi-monthly instead of monthly. There were now two divisions: Match and Single Player. Custom textures, music, SOCs and other custom resources were allowed in the Single Player division, where each entry was released as a standalone file, but not in the Match division, where the maps were compiled into a single file. To encourage voting, if a contestant voted on all other maps in the division they entered, the lowest score for their own map would be dropped from the final tally.

While this contest received so few maps that voting was called off, the format is still used to this day, with several modifications. The names of the contestants, which were meant to be revealed after voting had finished, were lost, and only two of the maps can be attributed to their author. The sole entry of the Single Player division, Gloom Metropolis Zone Act 1, would later appear in FuriousFox's level pack Acid Missile. As one of the first city-themed maps for SRB2, it was very popular during the Final Demo era.

May/June

Host: Mystic
Then-current SRB2 version: v1.08

Unlike the last contest, this one was able to garner sufficient attention for voting to occur. The winner of the Single Player division, Egg Palace Zone, was at the time one of the largest and most elaborate Single Player stages made for SRB2. Aside from a single negative review, it was very positively received. Gloom Metropolis Zone Act 2 was generally considered to be a mild disappointment compared to the first act, which had been released in the previous contest. Nocturnal Sahara Zone won the Match division with a very high score and was added to the official Match rotation in v1.09 as Desolate Twilight Zone. Shadow Hog's two submissions were direct ports from other Doom-based games: Castle Wolfenstein Zone from Wolfenstein 3D and Dead Simple Zone from Doom 2. This prompted a new rule for subsequent contests that banned such ports.

The original download for the Single Player pack was lost after the contest. The download below compiles the maps that could be recovered several years later. Jungle Island Zone is not included. Cold Metal Caves Zone only works with v1.08, which was current at the time; it will crash in v1.09 and v1.09.4.

July/August

Host: Mystic
Then-current SRB2 version: v1.08

The original download for the Single Player pack was lost after the contest. The download below compiles the maps that could be recovered several years later. WED and Storm Ruins Zone are not included, although the latter would reappear in FuriousFox's level pack Acid Missile. It featured two gimmicks that were reused in Deep Sea Zone Act 2, namely platforms that crash against the ceiling after being stepped on, and a moving block that acts as a crusher from below and a regular platform from above. All downloads of WED have been lost. While many voters acknowledged the effort that went into it and praised some of the gimmicks, it was largely panned for its extreme difficulty and confusing layout. The winner of the Single Player division, Dark Palisades Zone, was later featured in Tets' level pack Blue Heaven.

September/October

Host: Mystic
Then-current SRB2 version: v1.09

Most voters agreed that many of this contest's entries were sub-par, and all of the maps received scores below 7. The Awsumest Level Zone, a joke entry that was designed to be as bad as possible, still received a higher score than some of the other maps. This contest was also the first to have disqualified levels: The Maze was accidentally entered into the Match division instead of Single Player, and The Shining River – the first level in OLDC history to receive a 0.00 – had been released before the contest.

November/December

Host: Mystic
Then-current SRB2 version: v1.09

This contest included Tree Ring Zone, the only level to ever receive a perfect 10. It was subsequently added to the official Match rotation in v1.09.4, but its popularity steadily declined, and by the time it was removed from the game for v2.0, it was generally agreed to be mediocre. As a result of Tree Ring Zone's perfect score, Four Seasons is the highest-rated level in the old voting system not to win its division.

The original download for the Single Player pack was lost after the contest. The download below only contains Molten Mountain Zone, the only map that could be recovered several years later. Incomplete Xmas, as the name indicates, was entered in an incomplete state. It got lost after the contest and was thus never finished.

Single Player division

  • Molten Mountain Zone by Naga – 5.29
  • Grass Highway by ST218 – 5.57
  • Incomplete Xmas by Shadow Hog – 7.57
